BURGHS ARE CHALLENGE DIVISION CHAMPS
The Burghs emerged as the best team in the regular season. The Burghs won all their games in the Super Six. They then chased Canterbury's total of 207 runs with relative ease in the semifinals. However, their final test was also their toughest.
Defence first recovered from a top order collapse to set Burghs a target of 148. Amreek who came in at number 10 to bat made a patient 25 to lead that recovery after Defence had barely 100 runs to their name with 8 wickets down. Burghs in reply was 96/2 at one point with Navdeep(44) and Saunil (23) contributing at the top order. However, Amreek had a few tricks up his leve as he returned to reduce Burghs to 119/8 and putting the game in favour of Defence. It all made for riveting entertainment for a sizeable crowd who had shown up at Rideau Hall to watch a good game of cricket and these two teams certainly put up a show. Pankaj(31*), who was holding one end then saw Nikhil judged LBW with only 3 runs left for victory. Burghs 146/9 and in walks Arun who had earlier broken his wrist while attempting a catch. What follows is a wide followed by Arun digging out (one-handed) a yorker from Salman and then guiding the next full-toss to cover for 2. Burghs had won after 15 years which completed a cycle of rebuilding for the club which started 10 years ago.

Defence to meet Burghs in the final of Challenge division
2011 will certainly go down as the year when possibly the best ever two semifinals games were played in the CHG Division. Last Sunday, Defence played Cathedral at Lynda Lane while Burghs took on defending champs Canterbury in what were two great games of cricket.
At the end of the first innings in both games, the winning target was in excess of 200 runs. And who would have thought that both teams would chase it ? Burghs and defence showed that they meant business in chasing down 208 and 209 respectively. The top order came to the party for Burghs, who reached their target in 42 overs for the loss of 4 wickets only. Defence in turn relied on their middle order to do a rescue act and take Defence home in the 49th over with 2 wickets to spare. Nimeesh Kaushal (65) and Karandeep Singh (82) were the MoMs for Burgsh and defence respectively. On the losing side, Asif Sheikh and Amin Adil had another solid game for Cathedral, but their efforts fell short. On canterbury's side, Zain put in another all-round effrort, but it was not enough to get a win for his side.
The Challenge Finals on Saturday will be a showdown between traditional rivals, Burghs and Defence, in what should be a thrilling finish to the Challenge Division. Both teams showed great determination in chasing tough targets in their semifinal game and are deserving finalists after a great regular season. The weather forecast looks good on Saturday in what should be another great day for cricket in Ottawa.

Ottawa repeat as Citizen Division Champs
Ottawa needed only 14 overs to conquer the Royals batting lineup and repeat as Citizen Division Champs. The Ottawa spinners made the difference again as they made the target of 122 runs look more like 222 runs. None of the Royals batsmen stuck around long enough to give their team a chance at a gettable target under favourable conditions to bat. Fahd Shamim was the clear choice for MoM for hitting the highest runs (28) and then taking the most wickets (5/17) in the match. The game was a disappointing end to the Royals' season who had played brilliantly all year. Ottawa had great crowd support and did not disappoint them. Ottawa will rejoice, but after winning the cup twice, will set their sights higher for next year.

Ottawa face-off against the Royals for Citizen Division Glory
Suthershan Manhas was the MoM for his all-round contribution towards the Royals' victory over Capital CC. Suthershan made 28 runs and more significantly took 6/24 to secure his teams's slot in the finals. Capitals continued their dismal show in the playoff crashing out the Citizen Division semifinals without much of a fight.
The other semifinals encounter proved to be much more competitive with Ottawa edging Defence by 15 runs to secure their second successive berth into the finals. Themiya was MoM for his all-round peformance. The match could have gone either way when Defence was at 127/7 but Ottawa made quick work of the tail to limit Defence to 135 runs.
Its Ottawa Vs Royals in the finals on Saturday at Rideau Hall.

Super Six Roundup
Burghs continued their dominance of the Challenge Division by winning all 4 of their Super Six games. They now play Defending Champs, Canterbury in the Semis on Sunday at RH1. Cathedral was certainly the most improved team in the Super Six, winning 3 out of 4 games after a dismal regular season. Cathedral faces off with defence in the other semis.
Zain Mahmood was the highest scorer in Super Six (216 runs) and owner of the highest score (141*). Ahmad Shah (183 runs) and Bhounr Mubasim(137 runs) were the 2nd and 3rd highest run-scorers.
Asif Sheikh was the highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets, followed by Ayoub Ahmedzai and Harpreet Nanda with 10 each.

Zain Makes 141 not out !
Zain scored 141 n.o. (6 sixes, 10 fours) to rescue Canterbury from 83/6 to a respectable 218 runs. Zain and Imran Lakhani's partnership of 129 runs earned Canterbury their first victory of the Super Six after they had lost their first game to Defence. Zain who scored over 600 runs last season has had a relatively quiter season with the bat but his form may have picked up just in time.
Burghs with consecutive wins on the first weekend of Super-Six remain on top with 13 points. Catehdral also won both their games and are tied second with Defence. Royals and Capital remain winless and will face elimination unless they win on Saturday.

Burghs finish on top of Challenge Division at the end of regular season
Burghs won their last 2 Challenge division games last weekend to finish with the most number of points at the end of the regular season.
Ottawa had to win against the Burghs on sunday, but lost in a close finish after putting up a valiant defense of their 116 runs total. Nana tore through the top order of the Burghs to give Ottawa a chance but the Burghs held on to win with 2 wickets left.
Defence, Burghs and the Royals make it through to the Super Six with four bonus points for topping their individual groups.
In the Citizen division, Ottawa. Royals, Capital and Defence are through to the semifnals. Defence beat Canterbury on sunday to eliminate them out of the citizen division in a game whose winner would decide who would win the final semifinals spot.

The team behind the recent upkeep of Rideau Hall
Notice how the practise nets at Rideau Hall are suddenly playing better and with more consistent bounce or that the Rideau Hall changerooms have a fresh coat of paint on them ? The team responsible for these changes include Dennis Fernandez (pictured on right), Errol Daniels (pictured on left), Karandeep Singh and Boysie Nandlal. Errol and Boysie are Rideau Hall execs whereas Dennis and Karan were volunteers who contributed their time and energy to make Rideau Hall a better place for all of us. Thanks guys !

Group C - The group of death in Challenge Division
Capital's hard-fought win against Canterbury yesterday kept their chances alive for qualification to the Super Six. However, what that means for both Ottawa and Royals CC is that they must win their final regular season game next Sunday to advance to the next round or be eliminated.
Group A is already decided with Defence CC topping the group and earning 4 bonus points in Super Six. Group B is a fight between Canterbury and Burghs for the bonus points.
