The Ottawa Valley Cricket Council (a.k.a. OVCC) is the national-capital's regional cricket body and represents over 350 players in eight local sides plus Kingston, Ontario. The league consists of players from all continents including local born Canadians through to players from Australia, England, South Africa, the Caribbean, India and Pakistan to name just a few. OVCC was established in 1923 subsequent to the formation of a fourth cricket team playing at Rideau Hall in Vanier, Ontario. Since then, the league has expanded to include clubs playing at locations in South Ottawa (Lynda Lane), Barrhaven and Kingston.

Canterbury's winning streak ends at 32
|
Canterbury's winning streak in the Challenge Division began in 2006 and ended on 23 Aug 2008 when they lost to New Edinburgh CC in a closely fought encounter at Lynda Lane 2. Scorecard
The streak encompased 36 games (32 Wins,1 Tie, 3 RO) and in this time Canterbury has been unquestionably the best cricket team in Ottawa.
A quick look at what they have accomplished.
Season 2008:10 played, 7 won, 1 lost, 2 RO
Season 2007 accomplishments:
Winner: OVCC Challenge (CHG) cup (12 played, 12 won, 0 lost). 10 out of 12 games were won with a bonus point.
Winner: OVCC Knockout (KO) championship
Runner up: OVCC Six-a-Side championship
Runner up: OVCC Twenty20 tournament (inaugural)
Runner up: JRR Eastern Conference Championship: Defeated QCF champion Adastrians Cricket Club, at La Salle (Quebec) to qualify for the final and lost the final to T&D CL champion's Yorkshire CC side in a close game (Yorkshire winning in the 49th over of the game).
Season 2006 accomplishments::
Winner: OVCC Challenge (CHG) cup
Winner: OVCC Six-a-Side championship
Runner up: OCA championship Scorecard
Canterbury represented OVCC in the OCA being the 2006 OVCC CHG Cup winners and qualified for the final by beating H&DCL champions (Crescent CC) at Bradford, and then SOCA champions (Sunrise CC) at Waterloo. The club was beaten by E&DCL champion (Young/Malton CC) in final played at King city.
Canterbury has raised the bar in Ottawa cricket and has been the team to beat for other title contenders. Their bowlers have consistently destroyed the opposition batting while their batsmen have plundered the runs at will. Their strenth also lies in the fact that relatively lesser heralded players have often come to the rescue of the team when their 'stars' have failed.
There have been other dominant teams in the league but to win 32 games in a row is a record which will be hard to beat.
Canterbury plays New Edinburgh once again next saturday on what should be a cracking game.
