Underdogs Cambridge set the 2011 season alight with a huge upset over 2010 champions, Crescent. A downpour just before the start of play saw the match reduced to a 30 over affair in warm conditions. Crescent won the toss and predictably inserted Cambridge to bat on a Cambridge wicket most predicted to play slow and low. Daley and Lelliott got Cambridge off to a solid start against Crescent bowling that was difficult to score off in the conditions. Crescent then started chipping away wickets until an intelligent partnership for the 6th wicket between Mehta and Shazad turned the tide and put the Crescent fielders under pressure with good running. Some lusty blows towards the end of the innings from Bhaiyat and Campbell saw Cambridge reach a competitive 109. In their reply Crescent was in trouble early as Usman Lavla provided a testing opening spell for Cambridge. The dangerous Karim signalled his intentions early with a huge blow over long on for 6 but 17 year old Iftikhar Ahmed gained his prize wicket with a gem to leave Crescent reeling. The Cambridge bowlers continued to take regular wickets and bowled Crescent out for 105 to complete a huge upset.
